Résumé : Edited by Mary-Dailey Desmarais, MMFA, and Thomas Brent, Denver Art Museum, this book for the first time considers the Western and its attendant myths in the context of painting, photography, prose and film from the mid-1800s to the present. It is a story about the visualization, transmission and transformation of an American mythology – across time, space and artistic disciplines. The book received the Western Heritage Award in the Art/Photography Book category from the National Cowboy & Heritage Museum, Oklahoma City. This annual contest recognizes works in the Western genre in literature, music, film and television. Our publication also won the 2018 Colorado Book Award from the Colorado Humanities & Center for the Book, whose mission it is to inspire a love of reading and books among people of all ages through diverse cultural activities. For its outstanding graphic design by Paprika, Montreal, this publication was also recognized as one of the top 100 graphic creations in Quebec at the Grafika contest, organized by Infopresse.
